Medical Records Indexing & Quality Specialist

Job Description Summary

The HIM Indexing & Quality Specialist is responsible for maintaining the integrity of patient information by accurate and timely indexing/scanning documents into the electronic health records and performs quality checks to ensure documents are being scanned accurately.   Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm. Weekend and Holiday rotation

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision, reviews medical records to ensure that records are complete, and all appropriate documentation is present.  
  • Reviews and processes request for information, scans documents accurately into EHR, assist internal and external customers and understands State/Federal laws pertaining to confidentiality and releasing protected health information.
  • Responsible for processing requests for information and maintaining confidentiality by adhering to state/federal laws and health system policies. 
  • Performs a variety of duties for the Health Information Management Department to ensure records are complete and all appropriate documentation is present.

Education/Experience:

  • High School or GED, College Degree
  • AHIMA credentials RHIA/RHIT preferred
  • Experience with Scanning preferred
  • Experience with Release of Information preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe) preferred
