Lab Technologist (Generalist)


Job Summary:

Provides laboratory data that supports medical decision-making for our patients while gaining experience rotating through Chemistry, Hematology/Coag/Urinalysis, and Microbiology (planting and rapid testing). Assignments are primarily evening with occasional coverage into overnight shifts requested. Includes weekend shifts. Works collaboratively with fellow highly skilled professionals producing quality and timely Laboratory results for patients in a 382 bed hospital with an active ED/Level II Trauma Center and full maternity services.  The Laboratory features state of the art automation including the Roche Diagnostics Cobas 6000's in Chemistry, Roche MPA in Specimen Processing, Beckman Coulter LH780's for Hematology, Stago Evolutions for Coagulation, Beckman Coulter Iricell for Urinalysis, Immucor Echos for Blood Bank, Cepheid GeneXpert for Microbiology PCR testing, and the VersaTrek Blood Culture System. This position will also require experience with peripheral blood differentials, Gram stains, and CSF/body fluid counts and differentials. The Blood Bank utilizes leading edge procedures for massive transfusion protocols for care of its most critical patients. The Laboratory is well versed in continuous improvement opportunities using LEAN thinking, and is continually looking for ways to improve its services for the care of its patients.

 

Qualifications:


Associate's degree in relevant Medical Lab/Clinical Lab Science with MLT(ASCP) or equivalent certification required. Baccalaureate degree in relevant Medical Lab/Clinical Lab Science with MT(ASCP) or equivalent certification preferred. Categorical certifications will be considered. Recent experience in at least 2 specialities (Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology/Coag/Urinalysis, and/or Microbiology) required. Must be willing and able to train as a generalist.
