The Ambulatory Resource Nurse-RN provides clinical nursing care to patients commensurate with nursing licensure. Support the department flow and clinical staffing. Serves as first line of escalation for clinical staff nurses and medical assistants. Escalates departmental issues through appropriate escalation path. Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • This role should be able to successfully fulfill the duties of a Staff RN in the assigned department.
  •  Is knowledgeable in the workflows and policies at South Shore Medical Center. 
  • Supports staff training of new initiatives.
  • Huddle with staff and providers
  • Maintain inter-professional communication with colleagues
  • Facilitate proper phone system use and ensure par level staffing based on phone volume during shift.
  • Ensure clinical assignments are completed patient needs are met by end of shift through proactive coordination, prioritization, and support of team workflows.
  • Is responsible for the day to day flow within the department.
    o    Develop daily staff assignments based on weekly schedule with oversight of Nurse Manager.
    o    Adjusts staffing as needed to ensure coverage in the event of sick calls and emergencies. Adjustments will be reported to the nurse manager. 
    o    Support nursing triage staff activity to ensure staff are working efficiently and escalates concerns to the nurse manager for review. 
  • Reports clinical, staff, and operational concerns to direct manager. 
  • Escalate and report our safety events.
  • Address patient walk ins for proper clinical disposition.
  • Communicates new workflows and policies implemented within South Shore Medical Center.
  • Places self into the clinical role working as a staff nurse with an assignment daily. 
  •  Support onboarding of new staff by ensuring each new staff member has a preceptor.
  •  Completes the fridge/freezer temp check/logs.
  • Review required supplies and notify facilities of needs for the department clinic. 
  •  Complete daily code cart check and weekly POC testing check. 
  • Serve as lead for POC testing activities and new workflow support.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and clinical leadership at all times
  • Serves a s a role model for nursing excellence with proven experience leading teams, mentoring peers, and supporting high quality patient care delivery.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education - Required

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing

Minimum Work Experience

Experience with adult and pediatric patients in ambulatory

 3-4 years of ambulatory experience 
Acute care experience required

Experience leading others

BSN Preferred

Required Licenses / Registrations

RN - Registered Nurse

Current MA license

Required Classes/Skills

BLS – Basic Life Support

Required additional Knowledge, and Abilities

Knowledgeable in the workflows and policies at an ambulatory practice.

Demonstrated flexibility, positive outlook, and problem-solving abilities.

Meets or exceeds SSH pillars of excellence in practice

Demonstrated ability to lead clinical staff, provide resources, and manage schedule assignment changes.
