Family Medicine Lead Medical Assistant

Job Description Summary

The Lead Medical Assistant is required to perform all duties of the Medical Assistant and functions as the resource person. Also, the lead MA acts as a liaison between management and staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Demonstrates competency and professional responsibility in the medical assistant role

2. Complies with personnel policies 

3. Assist with weekly MA schedules, reorganize as needed on a daily basis for call outs

4. Assists in yearly evaluations (gives feedback, helps with chart reviews)

5. Precepts new employees

6. Review and explain new workflows to all MA staff (continue to monitor staff on newly implemented workflows/policies)

7. Bring issues, questions, or concerns to nursing supervisor

8. Attends 75% of scheduled staff meetings, including super user, DM/HTN and others as needed

9. Attends workflow meetings as needed

10. Performs 3-5 quarterly chart reviews on each MA

11. Manages daily MA scheduled related to sick calls or rearrangements as necessary

12. Holds monthly MA meeting to inform of policy/workflow changes and updates

13. Facilitates new hire training for Glooko; CGMs; autoclave and sonic; floor duties and how to perform them

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education - Preferred

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Completion of certified medical assistant program required

Minimum Work Experience

Minimum 1-2 years as a Lead Medical Assistant

Required License/Certifications

BLS - Basic Life Support

Medical Assistant Certification required

Required additional Knowledge, and Abilities

Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.

Knowledge of common safety hazards and precaution to establish safe work environment.

Skilled in assisting with a variety of treatments and medications as directed.

Skilled in taking vital signs.

Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and English grammar.

Excellent keyboard and computer skills, including electronic medical records, patient registration/billing system.

Excellent organizational skills.

Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical and other staff.

Ability to maintain quality control standards.

Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Ability to read, understand and respond to detailed oral and written instructions.

Ability to communicate clearly.

Able to both lead and take direction.
