EXECUTIVE DIR, DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING

Job Description Summary

Under the direction of the Vice President of Clinical and support Services and in conjunction with the Radiologists, the Executive Director assures service development, strategic growth planning, personnel management and resource allocation and control to provide and enhance patient care. Responsible for the services provided within the Hospital by Diagnostic Radiology, Diagnostic Vascular Lab, Ultrasound, CT Scan, MRI, Mammography, Interventional Radiology, and Nuclear Medicine Departments, including off site satellite locations.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 

1 - Develops, implements and evaluates the Imaging Services program and service delivery which assures quality patient programs consistent with the Hospital mission.

2 - Monitors compliance with regulatory, accrediting and Hospital policy for patient services, personnel management and environmental safety.

3 - Oversees Performance Improvement and Quality Control programs, which consistently monitors and evaluates critical aspects of care.

4 - Accurately identifies real/potential problems affecting the service and implements solutions with follow-through and communication.

5 - Serves as a resource to other hospital directors within and across service lines.

6 - Fosters an approach to service delivery, which is consistent with the patient care beliefs and shared management philosophy of the Hospital.

7 - Actively participates in departmental and hospital-wide committees as assigned. Acts as conduit for communicating important organizational messages to staff.

   a - Active participant in the Radiation Safety Committee

8Leads and engages others in departmental process improvement initiatives. Provides project management oversight for ongoing upgrades to space, equipment and processes.,

9 - Seeks new program strategies and/or program enhancements, which would expand patient services; explores required resources and reviews impact; initiates program proposals and submits them to Hospital administration for consideration.

10 - Is responsible for department’s operational excellence; assures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards.

   a - Manages all activities so that quality services are provided in an efficient and effective manner, as observed by Vice President.

   b - Services provided meet all applicable regulatory requirements.

   c - Maintains an effective quality improvement program that meets or exceeds Joint Commission and other regulatory agency requirements.

   d - Maintains departmental productivity measurements.

   e - Directs department activities in a manner consistent with organization-wide programs and procedures.

   f - Establishes department policies and procedures that reflect the organization’s standards.

11 - Manages human resources to assure quality services and promote positive employee relations.

   a - Consistently and fairly implements human resources policies.

   b - Maintains effective and appropriate staffing by monitoring employee turnover, overtime and absenteeism.

   c - Employee performance appraisals are completed thoroughly and submitted on time.

   d - Follows human resources policies to implement progressive discipline, when necessary.

   e - Collaborates with human resources on the recruitment and selection of qualified candidates.

   f - Develops performance goals/objectives with each staff member to promote maximum productivity, proficiency and professional growth, as evidenced by written goals on performance appraisals.

   g - Is recognized as a positive role model.

12 - Is responsible for the fiscal management of department; assures proper utilization of organization’s financial resources.

   a - Develops department budget within designated deadlines.  

b - Effectively utilizes resources within established budget; notifies manager of all variances.  

c - Adheres to procedures regarding acquisition of, and payment for, goods and services, as evidenced by appropriate and timely processing of requisitions and invoices.

   d - Recommends way to reduce expenditures and/or enhance revenues without compromising quality of services.

13 - Effectively communicates departmental, organization and industry information to staff.

   a - Attends organization’s informational meetings.

   b - Gathers, interprets, and delivers information to staff in a timely fashion.

   c - Assures staff understands information as evidenced by staff compliance with, and participation in, hospital programs, seminars, training and related activities.

   d - Communication with staff is effective, resolving conflicts which may hamper relations and productivity.

   e - Uses hospital communication resources to inform internal and external audiences of departmental news/achievements/policies.

14 - Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization’s overall mission.

15 - Technology and Learning

   a – Maintains proficiency and stays current with technological advances through on-going education and participation in professional organization programs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education - Preferred

Advanced degree in health care administration or related field preferred

Minimum Work Experience

Five to seven (5-7) years in an administrative management role required. Experience managing a large, busy (>310,000 tests/procedures annually) multi-modality imaging department preferred.

Required Licenses / Registrations

ARRT (RT) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (Radiologic Technologist)
RT - MA - Radiologic Technologist (Massachusetts)

Required additional Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of human resources management; program development, fiscal management skills, and familiarity with regulatory and accrediting agency standards required.

Knowledge of latest advances in radiologic techniques as well as automated image interpretation and reporting systems.

Working knowledge of Visage, EPIC and Workday strongly preferred.
