Job Description Summary

The Senior Vice President Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer provides executive leadership assuring the financial management of South Shore Health (SSH), including the development of its financial framework, key performance metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to actively manage and preserve system assets, effectively manage the revenue cycle and provide accurate and timely financial reporting. Reporting to the President/CEO, this position spans all areas of the South Shore Health system. Acting as a champion and mentor for financial management and revenue growth this collaborative leadership role partners with the System’s Senior Leadership Team to ensure the successful execution of our health system’s financial strategic plan.

Job Description

Partners with SSH President/CEO and all senior leaders in strategic and long-range planning to meet current and future financial goals and objectives of the System. 

o Develops and implements finance operational strategies by evaluating trends, establishing critical measurements, determining quality and customer-service strategies, interpreting and leveraging data, and implementing changes that will improve clinical and business outcomes.
o Responsible for SSH’s fiscal operating results, financial reports and statements, and administration of its accounting practices and systems.  Responsible for reporting monthly financial performance to senior management and the Board of Directors, and serving as an Administrative Lead for Finance Committee to the System & Entity Board’s Governance.
o Responsible for the identification and independent assessment of financial risk, financial forecasting, establishing and monitoring of mitigation plans, and for the communication of financial risk and opportunity to SSH President/CEO.
o Directs all fiscal activities including accounting, budgets, audit, taxes, the preparation of regulatory agency and government reports, payer contracting, revenue cycle and the systems and procedures necessary to insure and maintain efficient financial control.
o Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of the operating and capital budget to ensure that revenues, expenses, and labor are within budgeted objectives; advise department heads and administration of needed changes and improvements in a timely manner.
o Evaluate and manage investments in capital projects by applying unbiased scrutiny in determining the financial impact and ROI of such projects and managing the capital spend in accordance with the capital cash flow projections.
o Ensures compliance with company financial and accounting policies and procedures and also ensuring internal controls are effective in both design and operation, including the routine monitoring of controls.
o Is responsible for the operational effectiveness within the Finance Division to ensure that high quality financial services are delivered in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards.

Assists in the development of new business by analyzing the feasibility of new programs, including managed care contracts, and advise management of the financial prospects. 

o Establish process to efficiently and effectively evaluate business opportunities.
o Oversees the cash flow of SSH in order to provide for adequate cash liquidity and forecasting to meet operating and capital objectives.
o Responsible for the business/financial aspects of mergers and acquisitions, capital planning, and optimizing the organization’s access to all capital markets.
o Has overall responsibility for the investment strategy and monitoring of all corporate funds and pension funds, and serves as the Administrative Liaison to the Board.

Education:

o Bachelor’s Degree required  
o MBA in Finance, Accounting or a related discipline strongly preferred. 
o Certified Public Accountant is a plus but not required

Experience:

o This position requires 10 or more years of progressive leadership experience with a minimum of 7 years of experience in financial management and general administration, within a complex health system.
o Strong team building and leadership experience - Outstanding “business partnering” and communication skills are paramount to success in this role.
