Position Summary:
The Senior Database Administrator will ensure the security and integrity of databases and report writing solutions.  Implement data models and database designs and queries, and data access and table maintenance codes.  Resolve complicated database performance and capacity issues, replication and other distributed data issues.  Perform audits for database quality and health. Monitor Information Systems Customer Support system for assigned tasks and functions.  Perform a variety of database related tasks.  Participate in the research, recommendation, development and implementation of all database and report writing solutions.  The Senior Database Administrator will collaborate with other Information Systems colleagues, Information Security Officer, Information Systems Leadership and other stakeholders to identify, develop, implement and support cost-effective and functional information security controls for all aspects of the organization.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Design, implementation, and maintenance of database systems servicing clinical and administrative Electronic Health Record (EHR) functions.
Install, upgrade, and support the various Epic Cache database application environments and associated 3rd party software products on Redhat Enterprise Linux operating system environments in compliance with established architectural standards.
Provide Epic product function, design, build, and support expertise and experience for ongoing system build and configuration.
Work with application end users, analysts and experts in Epic systems support to build, configure, deploy, implement, operate, support, and maintain the database.
Develop, support and maintain required system design and build documents and other project documentation (business/system requirements, changes in workflow and configures system accordingly).
Contribute to the update and development of testing scripts and materials.
Actively participate in all phases of the testing lifecycle and performs unit, system, regression and integrated testing tasks and activities.
Adhere to organizational standards for application configuration and system Change Control.
Work with Principal Trainers to maintain and update application specific training curriculum and materials.
Attend team meetings to discuss team and project related activities, work tasks, and issues.
Create and maintain regular status reports and provide verbal and written status to Project Managers and Project Leadership as required.
Complete specific team task activities as outlined in the project work plan and other job-related duties as assigned.
Ensure the reliability, security, and performance of numerous environments within the system including production, development, test, and training environments.
Analyze database needs based on customer requirements and organizational direction to facilitate research and recommendations for cost effective hardware and software solutions.
Monitor, report and manage performance of database infrastructure and applications and services as required.
Troubleshoot all database infrastructure issues including database backups, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions.
Responsible for upgrades/patches to assigned database systems and software tools as required by vendor partners.
Monitor and support assigned database applications and services as required.

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other healthcare technology-related field preferred.
Five (5) years of database administration experience is required with two major database platforms (e.g., Epic Cache, SQL, MSSQL or Oracle).
Epic Cache DBA certification (preferred).
Experience in Cache database administration in an Epic EHR environment (preferred).
Training and experience in the latest releases of Epic Cache, SQL, or MS-SQL (preferred).
Experience in report writing and creating SQL queries is required.
System performance management tuning and disaster recovery planning is required.
Experience in complex problem solving in database environments is required.
An understanding of Epic Cache databases and knowledge of UNIX/Linux/AIX Operating System(s) is preferred.
Experience in UNIX operating system commands and shells scripting.
Epic M-Code/MUMPS/Object Script coding is preferred.
Excellent organization and planning skills; must be able to adjust priorities with changing needs of the business.
Excellent analytical skills with the proven ability to solve problems both in verbal and written communications.
Must have ability to create, understand, and follow processes to ensure successful execution of critical maintenance procedure.
Have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, ability to exercise independent judgment and be capable of managing resources over a project's lifecycle.
Possess proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project and Visio.
Must be an enthusiastic and flexible team player who possesses healthcare operational knowledge, project management and organizational skills. 
Ability to understand and explain complex technical concepts in terms understandable to end-users, strong written and verbal communication skills to include the creation of project documentation and technical writing, ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment on workflow design, problem solving and other projects that support business needs.
Travel required to Wisconsin for Epic training as needed based on position certification requirements.  If not currently certified, must obtain required Epic certification within 6 weeks of completing training.
Transportation for local travel between SSHEC sites.   
Participate in on-call coverage as assigned.
