Job Description Summary
The Manager, Analytics & Reporting advances data-driven workforce and resource management through analytics, benchmarking, and operational performance improvement. This role partners closely with Nursing, Finance, and Operations leadership to support integrating data from Epic, Workday, API, Strata, and other hospital systems to create actionable insights that improve operational efficiency, workforce utilization, and patient outcomes. The Manager serves as a liaison between Finance and Nursing, translating financial and operational data into meaningful decision support tools that empower nurse leaders to manage staffing and workload effectively, aligning labor utilization with patient volume, creating business plans, assisting with non-labor product and service management assessments and quality outcomes.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Decision Support & Analytics
• Participate in defining volumes, developing benchmarks, and creating flex variance analytics.
• Leverage hospital systems and databases for financial and operational data to investigate patient populations, outcomes, and indicators that inform workforce and staffing decisions.
• Build and maintain analytical models to measure and monitor labor efficiency, cost per unit of service, and clinical performance.
• Identify and validate source systems and data feeds to ensure accuracy and consistency across productivity, operational, and financial datasets.
• Align general ledger accounts, cost centers, and revenue streams through proper cost component mapping and reclasses to measure service line profitability and cost of care.
• Provides analysis reports of budgets, financial reports, and operational data to leaders for planning, budgeting, management and operational improvement to nurse leaders.
Operational & Financial Leadership
• Develop, maintain and support nursing budgets including capital and operating.
• Develop and manage comprehensive staffing and labor management models for nursing and clinical departments.
• Analyze and recommend labor management techniques to meet productivity and workload standards.
• Track and report key metrics such as volume, overtime, sitter usage, non-productive time, and vacancy rates.
• Collaborate with Human Resources and Nursing leadership to project workforce impacts from new hires, agency staffing, and orientees and to support labor workforce planning.
• Partner with nursing leadership to perform budget variance analysis, labor forecasting, and labor management initiatives.
• Contribute to the refinement of business planning, budget planning, labor flex models, and nursing expense benchmarks, tools, education and dashboards.
• Develops, maintains and reports payroll processing and adherence.
• Participate in nursing committees as a subject matter expert.
Education, Training, and Collaboration
• Serve as an educational resource for nurse leaders, teaching workforce management concepts such as HPPD, flex staffing, benchmark interpretation, and variance analysis.
• Create and deliver education materials and sessions for Nursing and Operations teams to improve understanding of productivity and financial analytics.
• Collaborate with Nursing leadership to promote accountability and data literacy in workforce planning.
• Support the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and Executive Director of FP&A with ad-hoc financial and operational analyses related to business planning, labor management, budgets, and performance improvement.
System Integration & Continuous Improvement
• Participate in enhancement projects across Strata, Workday, and Epic, ensuring consistent definitions, methodologies, and cross-system data alignment.
• Support health system initiatives involving labor management, decision support, financial forecasting, and clinical productivity analytics.
• Drive continuous improvement through data automation, Key Performance Indicator dashboards, and standardized reporting.
• Assist in development of new analytic workflows and visualizations to strengthen data-driven decision making.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, or related field.
• 3 years of experience in healthcare operations, finance, analytics, or clinical decision support.
• Strong understanding of hospital labor management, productivity, and financial performance metrics.
• Demonstrated experience using or supporting electronic health record systems and integrated financial management applications (E.g., EPIC, Strata) preferred.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to translate data into actionable insights.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel, Power BI, or similar analytics tools.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills across both financial and clinical domains.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field.
• Knowledge of nursing budget standards, productivity metrics (e.g., Hours per patient day), and benchmarking methodologies.
• Experience with Workday or comparable workforce management systems.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools and dashboard development.
• Prior experience supporting labor productivity reporting or decision support systems in a healthcare setting.
