CLINICAL PHARMACIST MANAGER

Job Description Summary

Reporting directly to the Chief Pharmacy Officer, the Clinical Pharmacy Manager will be responsible for leading and managing comprehensive clinical pharmacy services and program development across South Shore Health. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager works with the Chief Pharmacy Officer, Pharmacy Operations Manager, Medication Safety Officer and the Clinical Specialists to develop, implement and manage clinical services that ensure safe, optimal and cost effective clinical outcomes. Work closely with the medical staff, nursing leadership and health system leaders to set the clinical goals for pharmacy services and ensures that established policies for clinical programs are being adhered to by the staff. Participates in various committees through the health system to represent the capabilities and services of the pharmacy department. Additional responsibilities include establishing and participating in the education and training of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy students; provision of drug information, drug use evaluation and usage indicators, establishing drug therapy guidelines, and medication management quality improvement projects. Acts as a liaison to the schools of pharmacy and coordinates student schedules and activities.

Job Description

1. Practices pharmacy in accordance with laws, rules and regulation of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy, Department of Public Health, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and Drug Enforcement Administration and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures. Maintains credentials in accordance with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy. 2. Collaborates with the Clinical Director and Pharmacy Leadership to develop and implement clinical pharmacy programs and services in support of the pharmacy mission and strategic plan. 3. Provides leadership and direction to the Clinical Pharmacy Team/s; Manages staff resources, to ensure staffing plans (pharmacist team schedule) meets departmental and patient care needs. Responsible for performance evaluations; staff training and development; team building; recruitment; vacation/leave approvals; disciplinary matters and other related personnel management duties. 4. Serves as a Clinical Pharmacy Leader and active participant in hospital committees in related clinical practice area and others committees as needed. 5. Works collaboratively with other health care providers and the clinical team members to develop and maintain a sound formulary system to support evidence based pharmaceutical care and cost-effective drug utilization. Coordinates formulary reviews, drug use evaluations, quality assurance programs. 6. Directs and supports employees daily work activities. Collaborate with Hospital Leadership to ensure that there is alignment of priorities, initiatives and support for programs focused on improving patient care. Working with the Medication Safety Officer, supports a recognition program aimed at improving patient safety and outcomes. 10. Working with the Pharmacy Operations and Procurement Team assists with therapeutic substitutions stemming from drug recalls, drug shortages, and allocation processes in place from the vendor to ensure that these situations are communicated to clinicians and substitute products do not produce medication safety risks for the patient. Uses written communications and web based resources to help manage medication supply problems for the health system. 11. Organizes educational sessions for nurses, pharmacists, physicians, and allied health professionals based on emerging practice trends in the literature, occurrence reports, responses to corrective action plans, and recommendations from committee activities. Develop an organizational wide plans for the implementation of these recommendations that includes education and assesment of the effectiveness of such education throughout the organization. Graduate from an accredited school or college of pharmacy with Doctor of Pharmacy Current Massachusetts registered pharmacist license in good standing Completed PGY-1 residency Board Certification in Related Practice Minimum Work Experience Minimum of 3- 5 years of clinical leadership experience in a hospital pharmacy practice setting Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
