Job Description Summary
Gathers and processes all incoming Hospital checks and correspondence for Patient Accounts department. Distribute billing claim forms to assigned biller as well as any returned mail. Assist the billing and refund staff by locating explanation of benefits/remits for the purpose of resolving credit balances. Responsibilities also include maintaining documents of all off site storage including retrieval of documents as needed for audit or credit balance purposes. Assists in special projects and other duties as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Collects outgoing and internal mail, delivers to mail room and picks up incoming and internal mail for department.
a. Sorts internal mail and distributes in appropriate mailbox.
b. Opens and sorts incoming checks into batches.
c. Endorses checks and disburses to Cashier.
d. Researched problem mail on computer for proper distribution.
2. Retrieves insurance claim forms daily for distribution.
a. Sorts claim forms according to Insurance Carrier and places in biller’s mailbox.
3. Maintains and organizes records sent to off site storage.
a. Orders packing slips and boxes for records.
b. Sets up packing slips to be placed on storage boxes.
c. Contacts storage company for all requests for storage both to and from the department.
4. Embraces technological solutions to work processes and practices.
a. Uses the API payroll system to enter time worked, sick days, vacations, and holidays.
b. Uses Meditech to access reports and to maintain all appropriate billing/collection activity.
c. Uses Lotus Notes as communication tool.
5. Fosters a “Culture of Safety” through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment.
a. Successfully answers safety questions in annual mandatory education program.
b. Maintains a neat, organized work environment.
c. Adheres to respiratory etiquette guidelines.
